Couples intending to spend their holidays exploring a particular region often opt for pub accommodation. By its very nature, this type of accommodation is more appropriate for couples or small adult groups. Although most pub accommodation is of a high standard, it is usually relatively small and intended only for sleeping and as a base for exploring an area.
The beauty of pub accommodation lies in its very impressive flexibility. Oftentimes landlords allow flexible check in and out times as well as the fact that booking is not necessarily required. Obviously, peak season will increase the likelihood of a pub being full but it is usually possible to arrive at a pub and book accommodation there and then. All the same, it’s a good idea to phone ahead when you can.
Pub accommodation is perfect for couples looking to explore a given region of the country. Many couples tour counties by car, motorbike, bike or boat and use pubs to stop off at on their way.
For many staying in a pub offers a warm and friendly experience, particularly if local people are able to provide insider knowledge on places off the beaten track. Visitors to pub accommodation are also often treated to local food or ale.
A further advantage of using pub accommodation is that it is much cheaper than hotels. This may mean that a couple is able to extend their stay slightly compared with what they would have been able to afford in a hotel. Naturally, the accommodation is not nearly as luxurious as in a hotel, but for the purposes required pub accommodation is of a high standard.
Pub accommodation is not normally as visibly advertised as hotels. The highest quality accommodation can often be recommended by word of mouth. There are lots of published guides to small independent pubs and restaurants which include accommodation sections.
