There is a constant increase in the popularity of gay hotels as there are more openly gay travelers and as people want to stay in a place where they know they don’t have to worry about what anyone else thinks. This means that planning a holiday is easier and there is of course a new market opportunity opening up for hoteliers.
There is a bit of terminology that one has to learn when it comes to this issue and while it might sound like semantics, there is an important difference. The first of these is what are referred to as “gay friendly hotels” which are hotels that aim to please those of a homosexual orientation. Gay hotels are mostly owned and operated by gay people who naturally have a real understanding of the issues that gay people face and the kind of requirements that they would have from a hotel.
There are several websites that list both gay and gay friendly hotels globally. These websites allow the gay individual to choose a holiday destination where they are able to relax and enjoy themselves.
The types of gay hotels include the more traditional hotels where guest are often left to their own devices and explore the surrounding areas in their own time. There are also hotels that are more targeted towards the single individual.
These places often have daily activities that one can participate in and meet new people as well as experience things that wouldn’t normally be done. The more risqué destinations include “clothing optional” hotels where all the inhibitions can be left at home and forgotten and a little bit of fun can be had!
It is clear that there will continue to be a growing demand for gay hotels and this is certainly in evident in “gay” Key West, Florida. Some call this city the gay capital of the world and there are a host of activities and establishments that cater for a great holiday. You can be who you want to be and have as much fun as you like, because everyone is easy going.
